Frequently Asked Questions For
Home Delivered Meals
How do I apply
for Meals on Wheels?
You, a family member
or a professional caregiver may apply by telephone by calling the Main
office at (530) 662-7035. The application process takes approximately 15
minutes. The intake person will be asking for information such as name,
address, phone number, health status, etc. Certain information is required
by the State of California. All information is kept confidential.
Our Home Delivery
Coordinator will visit you, in your home, within 10 days of the start of
meals and again every 90 days with a visit or call to update your file,
re-assess your eligibility and assist you with referrals for other
services you may need.
What kind of
meals are served?
Our meals provide
1/3 of the Recommended Dietary Allowance for Adults (RDA). They are
considered a "regular" diet. We are not able to offer any special diet
meals. Nutritious menus are planned with your health in mind, by a
registered dietitian. Meals are low in fat and prepared with no added
salt. All meals are carefully monitored for food safety and nutrition
standards.
Food is served hot
and ready to eat in a reusable container. The meal should be eaten as soon
as it is delivered, as this is when it is at its nutritional best. If
needed, meals can be safely reheated up to 280 degrees in a microwave or
conventional oven without destroying important nutrients. NO toaster oven or stovetop.
Containers need to
be cleaned and returned to the volunteer driver the next meal day. Trays
MUST be returned every day or we won't have enough trays to serve your
next meal. Trays cost $14.00 to replace.
You may receive your meal in an aluminum
container. This container is for one time use only. NO microwave
re-heating.
When are my meals delivered?
Volunteer drivers
deliver the meals Monday through Friday, between 11:00 A.M. and 12:30
P.M., except holidays when a frozen meal is offered. Your volunteer driver
delivers a monthly menu to you.
What if I can't be home during the delivery time?
We cannot leave a
meal for you if you are not home. Part of our mission is to see each of
our participants at each delivery. We want to confirm that you are safe on
a daily basis. We also do not want to risk food-borne illness by leaving
meals out without knowing when they will be refrigerated or consumed.
If you have a
medical or other appointment during delivery time, call the office a day
in advance (530) 662-7035 or your local Senior/Community Center to either
cancel the meal, or to make other arrangements for delivery.
Can I suspend
service for a couple of days without being canceled from the program?
Yes. If you need to
cancel your meals for an extended time; i.e family visiting, hospital
stay, etc., we request a 2 day notification, if possible. We also request
a 2 day notification to resume meals. A person may suspend service for up
to 15 business days without being canceled from the program. Longer
suspension periods will mean that you have to re-apply to begin services
again. Extenuating circumstances, including extended hospital or
convalescent stays, are considered on a case by case basis. Also, call if
you change your phone number or address.
Is there a meal
cost and how do I pay?
Our meals cost $7.30
to prepare. The suggested donation is $2.50 per meal. However, no
one will be denied a meal, or a place in the program if unable to donate.
You can donate by
cash or check made payable to Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP). You can
mail your check to: Elderly Nutrition Program 40 N. East Street, Suite C,
Woodland. CA 95776 or give the check (or cash) to the volunteer driver.
Donation envelopes
are provided for confidentiality and available upon request.

How do I sign up
for a meal?
